the expert conference
On April 14, 2016 the second event, the expert conference, followed the parliamentary evening with the topic „Salafism and political force: causes, dynamics and operational concepts”. Experts from parliament, government and security agencies as well as civil-society actors followed the invitation to the conference in Berlin. Stefan Müller, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Education and Research, opened the conference and highlighted the importance of the intensified exchange between the scientific community and practice. Prof. Dr. Harald Müller, PRIF, made clear that the project had fulfilled a dual purpose: Not only was it possible to bring together expertise from various scientific fields, but to contribute to answer the question what kind of need for advice exists in politics, administration and society and how appropriate instruments of knowledge-transfer can be developed further.
In the context of the conference the results from six research-modules were presented in the plenary assembly and further discussed during workshops.
The conference concluded with a panel discussion between Dr. Ehrhart Körting, former senator for domestic affairs of Berlin, Prof. Dr. Christopher Daase, PRIF and Yassin Musharbash, DIE ZEIT. The debate about responsibility of politics, science and media in handling the topic Salafism and Jihadism was moderated by Prof. Dr. Ulrich Schneckener, chair of the Executive Board of the DSF.
