International Symposium hosted by the German Foundation for Peace Research and the Centre for Democracy and Peace Research, University of Osnabrueck
In recent years, the current practice of peacebuilding has caused controversial debates in international peace and conflict studies. In German peace and conflict studies, however, these debates did not find a resonance so far. The International Symposium will refer to these discussions and analyze the ambivalent experience with peacebuilding processes as it is mirrored in research. Furthermore, it will ask for innovative approaches opening up new research perspectives on questions of building sustainable peace orders. Finally, it will ask for the consequences that have to be drawn for various fields of international peace policies.
Outstanding and well-known experts from national and international research institutions will participate in the international symposium. Confirmed key note speakers are Prof. Dr. Michael N. Barnett and Prof. Dr. David Chandler.
The symposium is open for an academic audience as well as for policymakers and experts from various fields.
