The Executive Board
The Executive Board consists of five members who are appointed by the Foundation Council for a period of three years. It manages the foundation’s affairs in accordance with the resolutions of the Foundation Council and, in particular, decides on the use of the foundation’s funds.
The members of the Executive Board elect from among themselves a Chairperson and a Deputy Chairperson. Chair of the Executive Board is Prof. Dr. Ulrich Schneckener, Center for Democracy and Peace Research (ZeDF) at Osnabrück University.

The Foundation Council
The Foundation Council consists of twelve members who are appointed by the founder – represented by the Federal Minister of Education and Research – for a period of four years. According to its statutes, it is composed of five scholars, four representatives of the Federal Government, and three members of the German Bundestag.
The Foundation Council is responsible for defining the overall orientation of the foundation and the framework conditions for measures to fulfill the foundation’s purpose. It also supervises the activities of the Executive Board.

The Advisory Board
The Scientific Advisory Board advises the foundation’s governing bodies in the design of funding programs as well as the organization’s own academic events in the fields of research and knowledge transfer. It further supports the work of the DSF through expert opinions and evaluations. The Advisory Board has up to 15 members. Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board is Prof. Dr. Sabine Kurtenbach.
