I. General information
a. What were the reasons behind establishing the foundation?
The foundation goal can be deduced out of §2 of the constitution of the foundation.
The DSF follows the goal to strengthen peace and conflict research in her foreign and security policy importance especially in Germany and to contribute to her political and financial independence.
b. How does the DSF act?
The DSF is an institution of research funding. She funds academic propositions in research and teaching and she supports the transfer of knowledge into praxis and public. The funding formats are open to all academic subject areas, which are focused in their research on the field of peace and conflict studies. Interdisciplinary cooperation and networking as well as the funding young academic talents is of special importance for the DSF.
c. Since when has the foundation been operating?
The DSF operates since October 2000; she was founded by the Federal Republic of Germany.

You can reach us on workdays from 9 am to 5 pm, fridays until 2 pm, at our office in Osnabrueck.

II. Questions concerning the research funding
a. At what point in time are applications possible?
The Application for research project is tied to fixed dates, while the application for conferences is continuously possible. The dates for handing in the application for research projects are available on our homepage. They can be found under the header dates.
b. Can I apply in English?
Yes, each application can be handed in in English, too.
c. What do I need to look out for while planning my proposal?

d. How does the application process work?
As of now, the application is only possible online. Under the following link, you can reach the application.
e. How long until it comes to a decision about which projects will be supported?
The period is depending on the duration of the peer-review process. The foundation endeavors to share the decision about the funding of research projects with you within six months. The decision period for conferences and network and transfer projects takes less time.
f. Who makes the decision about which research projects will be supported in the end?
The (executive) committee of the foundation comes to a decision based on recommendations of peer-reviews.
g. Which proposals wont be supported?

h. What kinds of research concepts does the DSF support?
The DSF supports academic propositions out of each subject area, which deals with problem field of peace and conflict research. These propositions can conceptual focus on topics of fundamental research as well as practical research. One focus of our funding is assisting trans- or interdisciplinary research concepts.
