Abstract

The “Practices of Peace” series of events, organized by the Peace Transfer Center Augsburg as a transfer project, explores how peace can be understood, reflected upon, and strengthened not merely as a political goal or an academic concept, but as an everyday social practice. The series brings together academic perspectives from peace and conflict research with experiences drawn from local government, educational work, and civil and urban society.

The focus is on concrete peace-building practices: listening, negotiation, acting in solidarity, critical reflection on discrimination, conflict resolution, and the collaborative development of strategies for action in socially challenging situations. The event series addresses topics such as antisemitism, feminist peace practices, homelessness, power, and sexual violence.

Rather than understanding knowledge transfer as a one-way process from academia to society, the project develops a multidirectional approach in which scientific knowledge, practical expertise and lived experience are brought into exchange. The aim is to translate peace and conflict research into concrete fields of social practice while also using practical insights to further develop peace and conflict studies. In doing so, the project contributes to the advancement of practice-oriented peace and conflict research and to the consolidation of the Peace Transfer Center Augsburg.
